CONSULTING

Our competence builds on knowledge spillover effects from Norway's strong history of doing research and development of ocean technology for other purposes. In addition to our vision to reduce the devastating damages caused by hurricanes and typhoons, we also offer our competence as consultants on other applications of the bubble curtain technology.

OceanTherm provides counseling on the usage and necessary dimensions of your bubble curtain application, including, but not limited to, the following areas:

PLASTIC COLLECTION

By 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in our oceans. This is extremely harmful to the environment. Ships suffer damages. Aquatic animals get tangled in plastic. Over time, plastic turns into microplastic that aquatic animals get into their bodies. In turn, we end up eating plastic from our dinner plates. Submerged bubble curtains create a linear screen that can guide floating debris such as plastic away from entering our oceans, and instead into a collection unit.

NOISE MITIGATION

Underwater activities such as drilling for the installation of offshore wind turbines, demining, seismic surveys, pile driving, oil prospecting, and general port and coastal development can cause considerable noise which can be lethal to fish and other marine mammals. Bubble curtains offer a promising means of lessening the impact of aggressive sound on marine mammals by confining and reducing the sound intensity and the speed over which the sound waves travel.

CORAL REEF REVIVAL

Coral bleaching is a climate-related impact on coral reefs. Rising (or even falling) water temperatures can stress coral reefs, causing them to lose algae. The bubble curtain can help control the sea surface temperature above coral reefs.

FISH GUIDING AND CONTAINMENT

Submerged air bubble curtains not only reduce sound but create a linear barrier that can protect and guide particular fish species in a certain direction.

The bubble curtain can also be installed surrounding fish farming sites and be effective barriers against toxic plankton and algal blooms which are common explanations of declines in fish production and cause of death in salmon farms.

We also offer monitoring, analyses and impact assessments of:

  •  ocean currents

  •  tides

  •  circulation

  •  stratification

  •  ocean climate changes

within the scientific fields of:

  •  oceanography

  •  fjord dynamics

  •  strait crossing

  •  coastal engineering

  •  coastal management and development

We have access to an extensive network of contractors and other service providers for the application of bubble curtains, and we will gladly take full control of your project from start to finish, including maintenance and supervision.

You can reach out through our contact form for an initial conversation about any of the above application areas. If your challenge is not addressed here, we would be more than happy to discuss it with you to see if we could be of assistance in any way.
